Exercise caution at waterfalls during rain

Warning

Updated 1 Jun 2026

With monsoon showers active over the hills, streams and waterfalls can swell within minutes from rain falling upstream, even when it looks clear where you are standing.

Please follow these precautions

  • Do not enter the water if it is muddy, rising or fast-flowing.
  • Stay behind any barriers and heed instructions from local staff.
  • Keep a close watch on children near all water bodies.
  • Avoid the long step-descent to Agaya Gangai if steps are wet and slippery.

If conditions look dangerous, postpone — the falls will still be there tomorrow.

Drive carefully on the 70 hairpin bends

Info

Updated 20 May 2026

The only road up to Kolli Hills winds through 70 numbered hairpin bends. It is well-paved but demanding, especially for first-time hill drivers.

Tips for the climb

  • Keep to low gears, both up and down — don’t ride the brakes.
  • Honk at blind hairpins and give way to oncoming vehicles.
  • Avoid driving up or down after dark or in thick fog.
  • Heavy/long vehicles should attempt the climb only in daylight.
  • Check your brakes and fuel before starting the ascent.
